Time & Space welcomes filmmakers Akinola Davies Jr. and Ella Ezeike for an intimate evening of film and conversation, featuring a special screening of both their short films, LIZARD (2020) and WORDS WE DON'T SAY (2022), followed by a conversation with the directors.
LIZARD, directed by Akinola Davies Jr., follows a young girl in Lagos whose heightened intuition leads her to uncover a darker reality beneath the surface of her community. The critically acclaimed film won the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and received a BAFTA nomination for Best British Short Film. Davies Jr. has since gone on to receive further international recognition, most recently winning the 2026 BAFTA for Outstanding Debut for his debut feature, My Father's Shadow.
WORDS WE DON'T SAY, directed by Ella Ezeike, explores the relationship between an estranged Black father and daughter, touching on themes of family, identity and the emotions often left unspoken. The film went on to be on view for three months at the MOCA and screened at The Photographers Gallery and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, marking another moment in Ezeike's growing body of work.
Following the screening of both films, Akinola and Ella will join us for an open conversation, sharing the stories behind their films, their creative journeys and the experiences that continue to shape their work.
Join us at Time & Space for a special double screening and an evening celebrating independent cinema and the voices behind it. With limited seating, we invite you to reserve your place and be part of an intimate exchange of film, ideas and conversation.
